Great Exchange Church seeks to glorify God be being a community of disciples, built on the whole gospel for the whole of Newark, who live together at the intersection of the ancient faith and the modern world.
The Gospel is the good news of the incarnation, life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ, which accomplishes our salvation. Sinners are saved, saints are matured, and communities are transformed by this message. Therefore, we will be unapologetically gospel-centered.
Ministry is people. Jesus does not invite us to join a program but to become a disciple in the context of the local church. Jesus always intended that the world would recognize his disciples by their love for one another. Therefore, we will nurture habits of hospitality and care for one another.
Many of us are disillusioned by the division of our culture today. If Jesus really is rescuing a church for himself that it catholic, transcending all human barriers, we should expect to see glimpses of this unity in diversity in his church. Therefore, we will declare the whole gospel to the whole of Newark.
When thoughtful people bump into the truth claims of Christianity, skepticism is a natural response. Life generates complex questions that cannot be answered with trite aphorisms. We believe that God meets us when believers and skeptics seek answers to life’s biggest questions. Therefore, we will invite the skeptic to belong in thoughtful dialogue.
Jesus calls all his disciples to be servants. Practically, this means seeking to be a blessing to the neighborhood, city, and region to which God has called us. As a church in Newark, we will strive to embody the historic faith in a way that is relevant to our context and connected to our unique time and place.
